We started doingbird because we wanted to publish work that interested us.
doingbird is an international fashion/art magazine published quarterly in Australia. The magazine is published by Max Doyle (editor-in-chief) and Malcolm Watt (editor).
We are inspired by the creativity of image makers, especially in the way their work is presented or published in books, magazines, exhibitions, posters and fanzines.
Photographers, stylists, illustrators and writers inspire us. Mostly through the way they challenge the status quo or work against convention.
doingbird explores creative freedom and features work from photographers, artists and illustrators including David Armstrong, Terry Richardson, Jeff Koons, Matthias Vriens, Rachael Cassells and Carter Smith
All types of publications: magazines, books and fanzines have inspired our individual points of view. This gave us the idea to combine a variety of contributors from a number of disciplines into one publication.
We always wanted to publish interesting work in a conventional format.
Layout wise we like to present work in a very simple, straight forward way; our contributors work is all that needs to stand out on our pages.
We want to publish considered, powerful work and we want to continue working within other mediums (as curators of exhibitions and as a publisher of books).
We are currently working on a book of poetry which will be published early 2004.
