Body Contouring
with Alexis Gane

Our second print collaboration for Spring Summer 2013 also aims to contour and enhance the body, seeking to modify the human form.

The Compact Print, inspired by the true and tested make-up palette, was created by one of our very own design team talents, Alexis Gane.

A graduate of Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, Alexis is a print genius, having previously worked her magic at Eley Kishimoto alongside another Antipodium print collaborator, Chloe Constantinidi.

We cornered the fearless little honey badger in between sampling the upcoming Resort 2014 collection for a quick chat...

This season focuses on technology, the body and our relationship with beauty. How did these themes inspire the Compact Print?

We used the everyday tools of beauty (a makeup palette) to sculpt the body, to create shading and contouring to flatter and accentuate the curves and lines of the wearer.

Tell us a little bit about the process of developing the print?

I raided my and my housemates make-up bags, and took every shade of cover up, foundation and powder I could find into the studio. These formed the colour palette. I was obsessed with this green correction fluid, but I guess the whole idea of that is that you don't see it.

What are your favourite pieces from this collection and why?

You mean, apart from the Template Dress, Skirt and Shirt in Compact Print?? I die for the Facet Skirt, it's so cute with the bow bag and means you don't need a purse, so your hands are free for dancing!

Having worked within the fashion industry for a number of years now, what's is your opinion on beauty?

That is a loaded question! I think beauty is subjective and capricious. Things I found beautiful last year I might find repulsive now... maybe that just makes me fickle.

As an important member of the Antipodium design team, tell us something cheeky we might not know about the inner workings? Go on!

If you're not a Gal, a Chook or a Troll, you're in trouble.

What other print work or collaborations are you working on at the moment?

Currently I'm working on an exclusive print for online shoppers at Watch this space!

You're known for your incredible YouTube search skills. Will you share some of your favourite videos with us?

I can't take all the credit, I love this section on Gawker called Death By Cute. Watch Benny vs Bath, Postman Owns Little Kid (start at about 20 seconds in) and it would be rude not to add the classic Honey Badger.

Also obsessed with this tumblr, Animals Riding Animals.
